There are many reasons for downsizing and the choice often surrounds big life events.
One of the first paths to downsizing is often when two individuals decide to move into one home. Especially among those who have lived independently before, the joining of two homes can mean double the basics, and for many, keeping everything doesn’t make sense in terms of space.
The second most common path to downsizing is that of the empty nester. Families whose children have moved out and moved on are often left with a feeling of “a whole lot of house” for one or two people. Age and the ability to care for the larger space is also an influencing factor when it comes to making this change.
The third most common contributing factor to downsizing is that of the individual or family who has too much house for their budget and would better afford a smaller space. This situation can be a stressful and emotional one and many individuals can feel as if they are forced to “give up” their space versus making a conscious and exciting choice to downsize their life.
Downsizing can be an overwhelming experience and many individuals simply don’t know where to start. My passion is helping homeowners, buyers, and renters create a living space that works best for them.
The Upside of Downsizing
According to City Stash, 60% of seniors say they have more things than they need. 28% of which have been advised to downsize their belongings and a whopping 75% admit that the amount things they own have held them back from moving to another residence.
But the downsizing movement is not dependent on age group either. In fact, choosing to downsize does more than just provide you increased belongings that you may never use. It can save you money, save you time maintaining the space, and save you stress!
